5-STEP REFINISHING PROCESS

Before you let anyone in your home it’s important to understand the refinishing process and verify the experience of your technician.
We encourage you to compare our “5-Steps to Refinishing Success” to competitors.

1. PREPARE THE ROOM FOR REFINISHING

We take great care to protect your home by containing the work area. We mask surrounding areas and fixtures with paper and/or plastic and use a ventilation system to keep the air clean of dust, odors, and pollutants.

2. PREPARE THE SURFACE

Properly preparing the surface allows the new enamel to securely interlock with the existing surface. This is a critical step, if done incorrectly the coating will lie on top of the surface resulting in poor adhesion and possible coating failure.
All unnecessary silicone or latex caulk is removed and defects like rust, chips, gouges, scratches, and pits are repaired. We then clean and etch porcelain or ceramic surfaces with a heavy-duty scratch pad and hydrofluoric acid. If the surface was previously refinished, we power sand to remove the old coating in addition to cleaning.

3. PRIME THE FIXTURE

A tack coat, followed by a full coat of epoxy primer, is applied. Our highly engineered epoxy primer adheres to the surface using a molecular bonding action. Priming is one of the keys to extended service life of your fixture. It ensures long lasting adhesion of the coating to the surface.

4. APPLY REFINISHING ENAMEL

After the tack coat we apply two full coats of enamel. We only use eco-friendly coatings that meet the U.S. EPA standards for VOCs, to protect the health and safety of your family. Our enamel is formulated to withstand daily use for years to come. The layering process creates a durable, like new finish.

5. CLEAN-UP AND INSPECTION

Our job isn’t complete until the entire work area is clean and you’re satisfied. We remove masking paper and plastic, wipe down the area, and await your approval before leaving. They only thing we ask is that you allow 24 hours before using the fixture so the product can fully cure.

At Custom Countertop and Bath Refinishing we use the best materials available and guarantee your technician is equipped with the knowledge and experience needed to do the job right.
